Eye Exams Q & A

What are eye exams?

Eye exams at Optic Gallery Sparks are comprehensive medical examinations in which your optometrist evaluates the health of your eyes and assesses your vision. The exams are important to detect possible eye diseases and vision problems before they cause complications.

When should I schedule an eye exam?

The Optic Gallery team may recommend scheduling an eye exam every one to two years to maximize your eye health and preserve your vision. If you have an eye disease diagnosis, diabetes, or a glasses or contact prescription, they suggest scheduling an eye exam at least once a year. Call the office anytime you develop vision changes or unusual symptoms.

What should I expect during an eye exam?

During your eye exam, your specialist greets you and often completes:

Medical history review

Your eye doctor reviews your medical history, including your eye health history, before completing an eye exam.

Vision testing

Vision testing determines if you need eyeglasses or contacts to perfect your vision, allowing you to see as clearly as possible.

The doctor will present images, letters, and numbers to evaluate how well you see from a distance. You will look through various lenses up close to create your own personalized eyewear prescription based on your individual needs.

You might also complete color vision testing, peripheral vision testing, or retinal photography to ensure your health and well-being.

Eye exam

You'll talk one on one with your Optometrist about your eyes and if you have noticed a change in your vision. They will check the health of your eyes, as well as address any issues or changes you may have experienced. Your optometrist may suggest dilating your pupils to obtain an in-depth view of your eyes. You and your provider will come up with a personalized treatment plan for the rest of the year.

Eye disease screening

Optic Gallery Sparks offers numerous screening tests and imaging procedures that detect possible eye diseases, including diabetic eye retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and other potentially harmful eye issues.

Treatment

If you need treatment for an eye disease or vision problem, the Optic Gallery Sparks team is here to help. They offer medication prescriptions, eye drops, glasses, contact lenses, and referrals to an ophthalmologist if you need further treatment.

It’s important to follow up with your Optometrist as needed to ensure superior eye health and vision. They will let you know when to schedule your next eye exam based on your treatment plan.
